We reach out to women and children in Kamathipura, one of the areas in the red light district in Mumbai.
Women here are largely exploited victims of commercial sex trafficking. Abject poverty is the main reason so many women and girls are sold as sex slaves, often by their own families or so-called husbands.
Their daughters are also at high risk of being trafficked due to their exposure to brothels, and due to lack of other career options due to lack of education and work related skills.

Started in 1998, AAWC (Apne Aap Women’s Collective) is an NGO that works with one of the most underprivileged and isolated sections of Mumbai’s society - women in brothel-based prostitution and their children.
AAWC is not about changing the world; it’s about making a difference in the lives of these marginalized women and children, who are otherwise abandoned, destitute and exploited, with few resources to keep their body and soul together.
