Since our inception our strong grassroots and administrative teams have been the backbone of our work.

Manju Vyas, Director

Manju Vyas was born into a family of freedom fighters who followed Gandhian principles. A botanist by qualification, Manju has been committed to womens’ issues since her college days. She held the position of being a ladies representative during her university days and campaigned widely to address girls’ issues.

Post her marriage, Manju took charge of her family’s advertising business and later on worked as a Public Relations Officer with a multi-national company.

Manju came to AAWC 12 years ago as a volunteer. Manju was moved by her interaction with a young woman who had been hungry for almost 3 days.

However, as soon as she received some money she bought a milk pouch and a feeding bottle to feed another woman’s child at the center. It was this incident which changed Manju’s life forever. A then volunteer and now director Manju’s passion and commitment has been a guiding force for more than a decade now.

Started in 1998, AAWC (Apne Aap Women’s Collective) is an NGO that works with one of the most underprivileged and isolated sections of Mumbai’s society - women in brothel-based prostitution                                   and their children.

AAWC is not about changing the world; it’s about making a difference in the lives of these marginalized women and children, who are otherwise abandoned, destitute and exploited, with few resources to      keep their body and soul together.
